it takes a village

For weeks in our home, we have been getting ready for a big legacy event. It’s the beginning of a new marriage between my daughter, Jael, and her soon to be husband, Chris. We are just a day away, so this post will be short as we are spending focused time on family.

Have you ever heard that African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child.” It means that it takes more than just the parents. The whole community participates in raising the children. I don’t know about you, but I think of that often for my family. And even more so in this season of wedding preparations where we have changed our entire downstairs of our house as we head into the wedding celebration.

So, I have an adjustment to that old African proverb. My version is simply, “It just takes a village.” Here’s just a sampling of what we couldn’t have done without our village of friends and family helping us out up until the last moment.

Hand rolled 1388 meatballs

Made over 400 sliders

Painted several hundred square feet of our house

Assembled a 26’ foot party tent

Plus a thousand other things!

And quite frankly the last moment isn’t here yet because there is more to do tomorrow. There always is. But we are ready to celebrate and joyfully help our kids into the next phase of their lives. I hope you have something to celebrate too. And as we celebrate let’s remember prayer.

Every family needs prayer whether it be the start of a new marriage or years of life together. If you think of us on Saturday, pray for our kids as they start their life together. And more importantly throughout the remainder of this year, I hope we each find those moments daily to talk to God and bring our family needs to the One who loves us like no other.

Searching for wisdom and asking for grace,

Jody
